Interesting turns of events…and hello to those who have just found me!

By dmofdoom

To those who have just found me via the shiny new link on this page*…Hello and welcome!  For those who haven’t…it’s probably best if you just skipped this one.

I can only imagine that it’s been a wild ride to get here.  Her original post was dated February 22.  Of course at that time, she didn’t have the clever links to my site (or the link to helpguide.org).

On March 27, (OK, in the wee hours of the morningof the 28th) I happened across it (I’ll explain how in a bit…) and responded here.  No, I didn’t respond to the original post in her comments section.  That would a) be easily deleted and b) too needlessly confrontational.  If anyone reading her entry was that interested, my response wouldn’t be that difficult to find.

Imagine my surprise when I logged in here today and discovered that my page hits had gone off the previous charts!  “I wonder what that’s about?” I thought.  Then I looked at the “referrers” section.  Top of the list?  tabstudio.wordpress.com.  No way.  That’s a weird…um, coincidence?

So, in the name of “what the heck is that about”, I click the link and go to her page.  Lo and behold, the original enrty has been edited to include a link to my blog!

Item of note #1:  That link leads here, not the old blog.  Strange that it doesn’t point to the old blog, as that is where the response was…curious.  This entry reflects a possible solution to that clever bit of misdirection.

Item of note #2:  How I found out about her post in the first place.  I have used the moniker DM of Doom a lot.  I’ve been using it for a while.  I go to a LOT of sites, normally use that as a username.  I no longer have links to some of those sites.  Last night, I was curious as far as where I may have used it that I may have forgotten.  Enter Google.  It turns out that I’m not the only one who uses DM of Doom.  I admit it’s not the most original, especially when we’re discussing mostly RPG sites here.  So, to limit the list, I Google “DM of Doom Todd”.  Item two on that list (at the time, anyway)…her post.   Curiousity takes hold, and here we are.

Item of note #3:  After discussing this situation with my dear friends/housemates, I learn that they have known of it since February 23rd or so.  It seems he was googling for pictures of painted minis and happened across it.  He did not tell me, as he knows me well enough to know that the timing was all wrong.  I was in a bad place (emotionally) at the time.  I thank him for his discretion.   I also note this as a reference to how easy it was to happen across this libelous defamation of character. (see item 5)

Item of note #4:  My friend and I found her post accidentally, and well after it was originally posted.  She edits the entry hours after I respond?  Slightly creepy…

Item of serious note #5:  Libel/defamation of character from a legal standpoint.  Honestly, this hadn’t even occurred to me until after a discussion with my friends.  I don’t know what the legal parameters are for libel.  At this time, I’m not that concerned.  I’m not going to hunt down a lawyer or anything.  If I ever get turned down for employment, et al, because of her version of the tale, there will be a different story.  If it were me, I’d drop the links* and the use of real names.  Of course if it were me, I wouldn’t have gone there in the first place.

In closing,  if you are one who has ventured here from my ex-wife’s blog, I say to you both “Hello” and “Please remember that there are two sides to every story.”  If you are not one of those folks, I say to you, “Sorry about the drama.”

At least I got some site traffic out of the deal.  Gotta try and stay on the bright side…

*Since the time I originally posted this, she has since removed the links.  I guess that makes this whole post a bit pointless…
